God Doesn't Want to be a Part of Your Life

God never asked us to make Him part of our lives. He commanded that we make Him our very life! The idea that God can be a part of the Christian’s life is unbiblical. The Apostle Paul stated, “For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.” (Colossians 3:3-4) Did you catch that? Paul said, Christ is our life.
But what exactly does it mean to have Christ as your life? This is where Christianity has broken down in America. Because we do not understand what it means make Jesus our life, we continue to function as though He is simply a part of our lives. When we see Jesus as part of our lives, then we will live like part-time Christians. If Jesus is just another part of our lives, He cannot be our ultimate priority.
Are you treating God like He’s merely a part of your life? There are some questions we can ask ourselves to help us determine that answer.
· Are there areas of your life that you never pray about?
· Do you believe that God is only “necessary” to certain portions of your life?
· Are your weekend attendance and service in your local church considered the “spiritual” or “religious” parts of your life?
· Are Bible intake, prayer, and regular connection with God’s people in a local church expendable? Are they completely necessary and essential to your life?
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, then you are at least being tempted to try to function with God as only a part of your life. Worse, there’s a chance that you have already made some decisions that have cut God’s involvement out of portions of your life.
When God is our life, we recognize that there is no part of our life, not even a small fragment, that is outside the jurisdiction of the Holy Spirit. We recognize the absolute necessity of being tethered to God is every facet of our life – relationships, family, vocation, hobbies, finances, etc.
You and I were created with a need for dependency on God. That is not a sign of weakness. Rather, it is a strength. With humility, let’s recognize how utterly dependent upon God we are. Let’s make some new decisions and turn our hearts to God in fresh, new ways. Let’s live as Paul described – with God as our life!
